To summarize what we discussed in Part III, we understand that a fierce king or ruler will come into power that will make a 7-year treaty with Israel. However, after half that time (3.5 years), he will invade Israel, takeover the Temple and stop the daily sacrifices. Daniel 11 refers to this person as the King of the North.
Another key character in Daniel 11 that references the End Times is the King of the South.
Throughout Daniel 11, we see conflict taking place between the King of the North and King of the South. Sometime during this conflict, we understand that the King of the North invades the King of the South, but warships will come against him, and he will return home, however, venting his anger against and invading Israel. Not only will he takeover the Temple, but he will stop the daily sacrifices and reward those who violate the covenant (Daniel 11:29 – 32).
In Revelation 12, we see a reference to a “woman clothed with the sun, moon beneath her feet and a crown of 12 stars on her head” that is pregnant and about to give birth to a baby “that would rule all nations with an iron rod.” I believe this woman refers to Israel and the baby is a reference for Christ. Later in Revelation 19, we read, “Then I saw Heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. And the one sitting on the horse was named Faithful and True. For he judges fairly and then goes to war. His eyes were bright like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him, and only he knew what it meant. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. The armies of heaven, dressed in pure white linen, followed him on white horses. From his mouth came a sharp sword, and with it he struck down the nations. He ruled them with an iron rod…” (Revelation 19:11 – 15).
A large red dragon (which I believe refers to Satan) waits and tries to devour the baby upon birth, but the child is caught up to God and his throne (Revelation 12:3 – 5). The woman then flees into the wilderness where God had prepared a place to give her care for 1260 days.
Commentary: I believe, as mentioned in Part III End Times’ Corner that the reference in Revelation 12 to the “woman clothed with the sun, with the moon beneath her feet and a crown of 12 stars on her head” represents Israel. And when it says, “God prepared a place to give her care for 1260 days (or 3.5 years),” I believe this refers to the first period of 3.5 years after the treaty was signed with the King of the North. Later in Revelation 12, it says that “when the dragon realized he had been thrown down to Earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the child” and tries to drown her, but she is given wings like an eagle and the Earth swallows the water from the dragon’s mouth. “Then the dragon became angry at the woman and declared war against the rest of her children – all who keep God’s commandment and confess they belong to Jesus” (Revelation 12:6 – 17).
Satan declaring war against the rest of her children, I believe, refers to the 2nd half of the Tribulation period (or the last 3.5 years). We read in Daniel 7 where the “little horn” which we believe is the “King of the North,” which we believe is the Beast of the Earth (referenced in Revelation 13)…was “waging war against the holy people and was defeating them, until the Ancient One came and judged in favor of the holy people of the Most High” (Daniel 7:21 – 22).
We will continue our study in our next End Times’ Corner…
