Have you ever been in a situation where two people were asked to choose teams from amongst their peers and you worried whether you would be chosen? More accurately…when you would be chosen? No one wants to be picked last…even if you were chosen 2nd to last, somehow it mattered that you weren’t the last to be chosen.
In our text today, we read about Noah…the scripture reads, “Finally the day came when the Lord said to Noah, “Go into the boat with all your family, for among all the people of the earth, I consider you alone to be righteous.” (Genesis 7:1)
In our text, Noah wasn’t the first or last to be chosen…he was the only one chosen! Can you imagine the God of the Universe saying that you alone are righteous? Or, being on the opposite side of that statement, when the God of the Universe said “I have decided to destroy all living creatures for the earth is filled with violence” meaning everyone else on earth was evil?
I believe in today’s society, we get so caught up in day-to-day responsibilities, commitments, and obligations that we sometimes fail to consider where we are in our relationship with God.
Would He have chosen us back in Noah’s day…would He have considered us righteous? Or would we have been destroyed along with everyone else? Because another day is coming when the God of the Universe will once again judge the world…”to give to each man their due rewards according to the results of their deeds” (Jeremiah 17:10).
Do we know if we would have made the cut back in Noah’s day? Do we know if God will say, “Welcome Home Good and Faithful Servant” when we breathe our last breath or will we sit trembling on our death bed wondering where we will spend eternity?
While we still have breath in our lungs, let’s please consider our relationship with God…are we right with Him? Do we know we are in right standing with Him…that we have accepted Him as Lord and Savior and can say with confidence that we know “We will be chosen” to spend eternity with Jesus?
