Am I "Good Enough?"

Updated: Jun 17

I love a good story! So, when my mom starts sharing stories from her childhood, I pay close attention. Recently, she shared with me her belief that growing up, she thought she was a Christian because she was a "good person." She didn't drink, smoke, cheat or commit murder, so in her own eyes, she was good, and that made her a Christian.

I believe many people think like that...they compare themselves to others and that makes them "good," by their own definition. But the truth is, none of us are good enough!

Jeremiah 17:9 says, "The human heart is most deceitful and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I know! I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve."

The Bible says our hearts are desperately wicked...we are born into sin.

This story has a good ending, however, because my mom came to understand the truth...that God sent us a remedy...God sent His son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins (John 3:16). Jesus came to deliver us from our "due rewards...what our actions (truly) deserve."

So, the next time we ask ourselves, "Am I Good Enough?" we should consider what the Bible says about it...we are ALL in need of a Savior!"
